Module 2.3 · Topic 4
Multi-Model Strategies
Bottom Line Up Front: Chain models deliberately. Ideation (fast), depth analysis (reasoning), synthesis (research). Costs less than high-capability models everywhere. Effective workflows chain models deliberately. Fast…
4.1 Using Different Models for Different Stages
Design workflows: ideation (fast) → analysis (reasoning) → synthesis (research).
- Ideation (Fast): Generate volume quickly at minimal cost. Most options are rejected.
- Analysis (Reasoning): Add rigor. Weigh trade-offs with visible reasoning you can defend.
- Synthesis (Research): Gather current info across sources, integrate findings, deliver final recommendation.
4.2 Model Chaining and Handoff Patterns
Pass Model A's output to Model B with a new prompt. Model B builds on A's work, adding rigor where needed.
Structure:
- Model A produces an artifact (outline, list, analysis)
- Model B receives A's output plus new context specific to B's role
- B's prompt explicitly references A's output, clarifying it's building on previous work
Example:
Model A (fast) generates 10 competitor pricing models. Model B (reasoning) receives them and analyzes each for assumptions, churn tolerance, and revenue vs. growth trade-offs. B doesn't redo analysis; it follows A's structure and adds depth to A's work.
